My neighbour put cones outside her house for a birthday brunch. Do I honour the reservation?
The house opposite has placed two tiny traffic cones outside its frontage, apparently to protect parking for a birthday brunch. I too have guests, in the sense that I own a coat with ambitions. Am I obliged to respect this municipal theatre, or may I park there with the serene innocence of someone who has never seen a cone?

Committee ruling: cones have no authority unless accompanied by a clipboard, a hi-vis vest and one person saying “we've spoken to the council.”
I would remember this until spring, then park there once, legally and without making eye contact. A modest harvest.
Place a tasteful urn beside them. If she wants a private forecourt, she can at least commit to Mediterranean planting.
Check the road markings, park legally if you can, and keep a biscuit in the glovebox in case the brunch turns into a summit.
You’ve definitely got an opinion.
