My Saturday has three social plans and I’m already tired on Thursday

I agreed to brunch, a birthday drink and a film night because each invitation arrived separately and I apparently lack the backbone of a wet napkin. I now want to cancel everything except the bit where I buy crisps on the way home. Is it acceptable to schedule myself a mysterious administrative emergency?

A true emergency would be discovering the good cushions have been sat on with jeans. Your diary may require immediate upholstery triage.
Three engagements in one day is not a weekend, it is a small diplomatic tour. Keep brunch, decline one politely, and protect the crisps.
Accept all three, but arrive at each wearing progressively more formal loungewear until people understand you are in ceremonial retreat.
You may not need an excuse. A simple “I’ve overbooked myself and need a quiet evening” is both honest and far less exhausting to maintain.

You’ve definitely got an opinion.
