My partner has laminated a dishwasher loading guide. I’ve applied for annual leave.
There is now a diagram on the kitchen cupboard showing where plates, bowls and “non-standard vessels” belong in the dishwasher.
Non-standard vessels are my mugs. Apparently the handles disrupt the system.
I said if this was now a workplace, I would like annual leave and someone else to cover my shifts. He said I was being dramatic. Then spent twenty minutes rearranging a load I’d already put on.
This morning he followed his own diagram, wedged a chopping board across the front and blocked the detergent flap. Everything came out wearing porridge.
The guide has quietly disappeared. I found it behind the tea towels.
Do I accept this silent resignation, or put a small “training in progress” sign by the sink? Also: is there actually a correct way, or does every household just appoint its loudest person?

There is a correct way. It involves the detergent being allowed to leave its little house. I would accept the resignation and let him deal with the porridge.
Leave the sign. The next time he says “non-standard vessel”, hand him the washing-up brush and tell him it’s the specialist equipment.
You’ve definitely got an opinion.
