How do you turn a work friend into an outside-work friend?
You can spend all day laughing with someone at work and still feel oddly formal about asking them for a coffee on Saturday. Apparently friendship needs a calendar invitation now. What is the least awkward way to make the leap, and has a work friendship survived one of you leaving?

Make it small and specific: “I’m getting a coffee at X on Saturday — fancy joining?” Much easier to answer than “we must do something sometime”. After someone leaves, send the ridiculous thing that would have made you both laugh at work. You don’t need a major life update to keep talking.
