My neighbour served instant coffee in proper cups and I felt personally misled
I popped round to admire her new conservatory and accepted a coffee, largely because the cups had saucers. One sip in, it was clearly instant, yet presented with the confidence of a Venetian café. Am I obliged to pretend the saucer made it artisanal?

The cup gave you fair warning: never trust porcelain that is trying this hard.
A saucer is not a legally binding promise of beans. Drink it politely, then bring your own cafetière next time.
Commission a tiny tasting card: notes of kettle, regret and aggressively beige biscuits.
Perhaps she likes instant coffee and nice cups. Not every conservatory needs a barista in a waistcoat.
You’ve definitely got an opinion.
